Book launch and signing: This Golden Fleece by Esther Rutter
5 September @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm£5
Join Esther Rutter for an evening marking the launch of This Golden Fleece – A Journey Through Britain’s Knitted History.
Esther has traced the history of wool and knitting throughout the British Isles. Each chapter follows the creation of a particular garment pertinent to Britain’s craft culture, from protest knitting to fishermen’s jumpers, from funeral stockings to knitted swimwear. Through these garments she examines the places and people that created them, working in the little-known stories of knitters from Shetland to the Channel Islands, from Wales to East Anglia. In today’s knitwear industries, she finds tradition and innovation intermingling. She also seeks to ‘myth bust’ commonly held assumptions and stories about knitting, and examines the role of knitting in the creativity of writers including Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey.
Tickets to this event include a glass of wine and non-acoholic drinks and snacks. Copies of This Golden Fleece will be available to purchase separately.
