Colourwork Magic Part II: Learn to Steek
25 February, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm£45
Making the Cut!
The traditional technique for stranded colourwork involves knitting in the round on circular needles so that you remain on the right side of your knitting and avoid having to turn and work on the purl side
This second part of the Colourwork Magic course is all about steeking or cutting your circular knitting to make way for armholes, neck lines, cardigan button bands, etc.. You will learn how to:
- reinforce your colourwork knitting
- cut the fabric
- pick up stitches for the edging
For students who are already accomplished fair-isle knitters but would like to learn more about steeking, tickets are available to attend Colourwork Magic Part II as a single stand-alone class.
If you are attending Part II only, you will need to prepare a swatch of circular fair-isle knitting before the class.
About the teacher
Renée Callahan is a knitwear designer and teacher living and endlessly knitting here in East London. Originally from Seattle, where she studied history of art, she came to the UK as an exchange student but fell in love and stayed, changing not only her home town, but also her career when she went back to college to study fashion design with knitwear. She began to knit relatively late, but with the zeal of the newly converted, she found a way to rebuild her life with fibre arts at the centre. She loves to think about knitting construction and to pass the skills on with teaching.
