Learn to knit Sanquhar gloves

18 June, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join knitwear designer and historian, Angharad Thomas, for a fascinating hands-on masterclass that traces the traditions of Sanquhar Gloves, with their distinctive 9×9 grid of geometrical shapes and fine-gauge knitting, to modern re-interpretations of the designs.

During the workshop you will swatch designs and learn about glove construction, so that you’re all set to make your own pair by the end of the day

Angharad Thomas is a designer, researcher and maker. She has been an Art and Design academic and now divides her time between volunteering in the collection of the Knitting & Crochet Guild of the UK, and working on ‘the Glove Project’

Skills Required
Experience of knitting in the round and working with two colours

Practice yarn and needles will be available for everyone to use for swatching during the workshop but if you would rather use your own, you will need a small amount of DK wool in two colours and 4mm circular needles or DPNs.

For your ‘real pair’ of Sanquhar gloves you will need two shades of 4ply yarn and 3.25mm needles. Yarn and needles can be purchased from the shop with a 10% participants’ discount.
