This brand new all day class takes you from toe to cuff in a single day.
Whether you’re a stubborn top-downer, or a sock-knitting novice, this class will add useful new sock techniques to your knitting repertoire.
Join Jane Lithgow with her astonishingly encyclopaedic knowledge of socks and take a new direction in sock knitting.
The class will include
- Knitting in the round using magic loop, casting on with Judy’s Magic Cast-on, shaping the toe, measuring the foot.
- Working the gusset, turning the heel, completing the cuff.
This class is suitable for confident knit-and-purlers who know how to knit in the round.
Practice yarn and needles will be available to use during the class. If you prefer to bring your own, you will need a 2.25mm 80cm circular needle and 100g of 4ply/fingering weight yarn.
About the Teacher
Jane Lithgow is a lifelong knitter, taught by her grandmother as a child. She can draw on this experience of knitting to give good clear, practical advice to the novice and expert knitter alike. She is a published designer with her designs appearing in publications such as Knit Now and
Stika. She has a particular interest in designing accessories, particularly mittens and socks. She is an experienced knitting, crochet and spinning teacher at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. She has worked with adults and children and has a special interest in working with people with English as a second language and people with disabilities.
Infectiously enthusiastic and reassuringly patient, she regularly teaches at knitting shops across London and beyond including Loop in Islington, Wild and Woolly in Clapton and Nest in Crouch End and is currently one of the Fibre Artists in Residence at Stepney City Farm. She has also taught at music and fibre festivals, in museums, prisons, schools and art galleries.
Born and brought up on the Isle of Wight she is based in London. When she is not knitting she can be found walking coast paths and dreaming of living by the sea again.
