The Wool Kitchen DK | 225m/£22/100g skein

This yarn has been specially dyed for the Side by Side Sweater by The Wool Kitchen in east London. She’s used a Bluefaced Leicester base giving softness, lustre and stitch definition. Her signature cosmic speckles are designed to play beautifully with Sosu’s travelling stitches.

Garthenor Beacons | 135m/£12/50g skein

This organic Romney, Hebridean Polwarth blend from Garthenor creates a characterful heathered fabric, subtle enough not to upstage the travelling stitches. The yarn is smooth with a little wooliness giving slightly muted definition.

Dlana Native Spanish Merino  |125m/£6.50/50g ball

This single plyed super-soft beauty from Dlana fuzzes into place as soon as it’s blocked. The raised texture of the travelling stitch lines are clearly visible without marking individual stitches. This is very muted stitch definition without compromising on texture.

Dererum Natura Penelope | 135m/£8.50/50g ball

In the stitch definition stakes, Penelope wins! This delightful worsted spun yarn from Dererum is a complete departure from its more famous woolly siblings. The addition of silk just serves to emphasise its smooth round structure. The yarn celebrates each stitch separately with an incredible crispness

WYS Bluefaced Leicester DK | 225m/£12.95/100g skein

Characterful, soft, cosy and robust. This lightly heathered BFL emphasises the textured stitches with a smooth and lustrous handle. Woolly without the itch and with an extraordinary toothiness to the fabric.

Dererum Natura Gilliatt | 250m/£12.75/100g

Plumpest of all our selected yarns, the Gilliatt’s generous meterage never fails to surprise. Consequently our Gilliatt swatched the densest looking fabric. Travelling stitches will stand proud, and your sweater will hold its form beautifully. Soft, robust and a joy to knit with. Warning, if you choose the Gilliatt, you may never want to knit with anything else again!

Rosa Pomar Brusca | 125m/£6.00/50g ball

Bo Peep Pure | 112m/£6.50/50g ball

How Much Yarn

To calculate the amount of yarn you need to knit the sweater..

1. Pick a size that is about 10-15 cm / 4-6″ wider than your bust circumference (body measurement); less ease will result in a tighter-fitting sweater, more ease will result in a more over-sized sweater. As the sweater has a straight fit without any waist shaping, the circumference is the same at the bust and hips.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
96cm/38″ 107cm/42″ 117cm/46″ 128cm/50.5″ 136cm/53.5″ 149cm/58.5″ 157cm/62″ 168cm/66″

2. Pick a length down the centre back measured from the neck:

a b c d
52cm/20.5″ 61cm/24″ 70cm/27.5″ 79cm/31″

3. Find your size group in the table below and see how much corresponding DK weight yarn you’ll need.

Size Group 1 Size Group 2 Size Group 3 Size Group 4 Size Group 5 Size Group 6 Size Group 7
