Winterburn DK is a lightly worsted spun, bouncy 2 ply yarn from Baa Ram Ewe made from 50% Blue Faced Leicester, 25% ecru Masham and 25% dark brown Masham. This non super wash treated yarn is spun and dyed in Yorkshire UK. Because of the coloured Masham fibre the shades of Winterburn have a great depth and complexity for a machine dyed yarn.
Winter burn is a wonderful yarn for garments and accessories. Being worsted spun it gives good stitch definition to cabled and textured garments and accessories whilst the lightness of the spin ensures that there is still significant trapped air in the yarn making it versatile and very warm for its weight.
Please note – I n response to the UK’s shortage of Wensleydale available for spinning into hand knitting wool, Baa Ram Ewe have created an alternative to Dovestone called Winterburn. It has the same distinctive spin, twist and knitting gauge. The fibre mix is similar to the Dovestone, with the exception of the Wensleydale content. It has a slightly softer handle but is almost identical to the naked eye. Dovestone will continue to be available at Wild and Woolly while stocks last, but will gradually be replaced by the equivalent shades in Winterburn. Although both yarns come in the same range of shades, customers are encouraged to buy enough yarn for their project from either Winterburn or Dovestone, as slight shade fluctuations may occur in the different batches of yarns.
