João is a DK weight single ply yarn, made in Rosa Pomar’s signature rustic style from the wool of Portuguese merino sheep, a native breed found in the south of Portugal, mainly in the Alentejo.
Minimally processed to preserve the character of the yarn you may find traces of the plants that the sheep has brushed against as it browses the hillsides.The yarn has a characterful uneven slubbiness which adds interest to even the simplest project.

We love this yarn knitted up into accessories, sweaters and cardigans which will be especially warm and cosy because of the amount of air in this lightly spun yarn. You might, however, find a few pills around armholes and cuffs due to the lightness of the spin and the tenderness of the fibre.
We particularly recommend a Gleaner for gently removing pills without damaging the fabric. After a couple of treatments we would expect this problem to reduce.
