Town End Alpaca Whitbarrow

£20.00

Fibre: 45% Peruvian Alpaca, 35% Falklands merino, 20% Mulberry silk
Yardage: 400m per 100g skein

There’s Alpaca and then there’s Town End Alpaca. Kim, the owner of the brand is a former alpaca farmer who discovered that her true skill was in sorting and selecting alpaca fleeces. We’re pretty sure that this yarn is made from some of the finest alpaca on the market.

Alpaca fibres are hollow and less elastic than wool so gram for gram they are warmer and drapier.

We feel that alpaca reaches its full potential when it is used in combination with other fibres. This yarn is a good example containing 45% Peruvian alpaca for warmth, 35% organically farmed Falklands Merino for bounce and keeping shape and 20% Mulberry silk for sheen and strength. This yarn is spun by John Arbon in Devon. This yarn would make beautiful accessories such as shawls and cowls. If you make socks with it be aware that they may not hold up as well as commercial sock yarns in terms of shape and durability but they would certainly make delicious, slouchy house socks for curling up by the fire on a cold winter’s evening.
