Rauwerk Organic Merino Sport

Description

Rauwerk Organic Merino Sport is a 2 stranded woollen spun 100% Merino sport weight yarn from Bavaria in Germany. Rauwerk's woollen spin gives this yarn an unexpected heft for its weight, and means that it works across a range of airy to dense fabric gauges. The meterage here (300m/100g) may sound sport-ish, but you’ll find it’s super for patterns that require a regular DK gauge of 19-22 stitches.

The woollen spin means that it doesn't immediately feel as soft as a super wash merino, but patient knitters will be rewarded as the yarn blooms and softens beautifully when washed, to create a warm, light, coherent fabric that is more likely to keep its shape than super wash treated yarns. Woollen spun yarns like this with their air filled construction tend to yield better yardage than their worsted spun equivalents making them extra economical. The smoothness of merino means that this yarn still gives good clear stitch definition for cables and lace.

As the yarn is untreated, we recommend hand washing and drying flat. Did you know that wool repels dirt naturally? We recommend regular airing in cold air between washes to extend the life of the garment. On frosty mornings you may find us laying out our favourite sweaters in the garden! Rauwerk is made of the fleece of a single flock of Merino D'arles sheep  from a local, organic certified farm on the outskirts of Munich. The yarn is spun in a mill nearby in the Chiemgau region in the Bavarian Alps.
