Sheepsoft blends the softness and lustre of Bluefaced Leicester with the bounce and toothiness of Masham. The result is an uncommonly hardwearing yarn for the softness, with next to no bobbling. The palette is dyed over the naturally heathered grey-brown of the sheep's fleece, giving each of the gently dyed shades an unusual depth. Sheepsoft is worsted spun but the Masham in the blend seems reluctant to completely concede its woolliness, so there's a whisper of something sheepier within the smoothness and softness of the twist.
This latest addition to the Sheepsoft range achieves a super-bulky gauge with a chainette/i-cord construction, so the centre is hollow. This gives you twice the normal meterage for the gauge and makes the yarn an even warmer option for hats and scarves. It will handle twisty cables magnificently but has more than enough character to make acres of stocking stitch tell their own story.
The wool is spun by Laxtons at their mill in the north of England, famous for generations of wool making. Sheepsoft is their own brand British Sheep Breeds wool which they have deliberately created from fleece which they source from the flocks of sheep within a 50 mile radius of the mill. This tiny production circle helps to minimise the carbon footprint of the entire yarn production process.
