Description

Mota is a characterful worsted weight, smooth and bouncy, sweater-worthy wool with a rounded structure and crisp defintion: as stastisfying to knit through acres of stocking stitch, as it is rewarding for adventurous texture like cables and lace. And the unexpectedly generous meterage often means you need one ball less than you think. Next to no bobbling, with a soft felty handle, Mota has become our one-wool-fits-all yarn. And it's non-standard Z-twist construction makes it ideal for crocheters and knitters alike, as it won't come unplied as you work.

The yarn is named after the town, Mota del Cuervo, where the Wool Dreamers Mill is based, and is made of fibre from flocks of Spanish Merino which are born and bred in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha. This tiny production circle gives the yarn the lowest possible carbon footprint.

Ramon is the 4th generation in his family to continue their wool-making tradition. Under his management the mill has transformed into an important centre for yarn-making for hand knitters, using wool from local farmers, with minimal inputs so that as much care as possible goes into the local ecology, animal welfare and the working conditions of local shepherds and mill workers.

You can read more about Ramón's work and the Wool Dreamers Mill in our article, A Dream Come True.
