Description

Breeds is the latest chapter in the Wooldreamers' story of Ramon's relentless persuit of integrity-rich, real wool which can properly celebrate - and also revive -  the local history, community and culture of the native breeds of his beloved region of Spain. This one is a woollen spun yarn with the visible heatheriness of different shades of fleece that have been carded together - soft, airy and full of character. No two skeins are identical but there is a pleasing sympathy to all the singularities.

The yarn comes in 2 versions:

The Guirra is spun from the fleece of the Valencian native Guirras sheep. The fibre is slightly darker and has the hint of a reddishness, a special characteristic of Ramón's flock. Ramon is the shepherd and president of the local Association of Breeders of the Guirra Breed.

The slightly lighter Roja Mallorquina is spun from the fleece of two other local flocks which include the Mallorquina Breed, originating from the Balearic Islands.

The wool is a perfect gauge match for Cautiva so although Breeds is only available in undyed shades, they can easily be used together in colourwork projects with the Cautiva.
You can read more about the story behind the yarn in our article, A Dream Come True.
