Description

Saona was developed by the Wool Dreamers as a collaboration between local small wool producing family farms and producers of Andalusian cotton. The resulting yarn is a very soft and lofty 4ply weight, with a 2 ply construction. This yarn is ideal for transforming warmer sweater patterns into summer-tops - as it substitutes perfectly for a woollier 4ply and creates a lighter cooler fabric.
Saona is the name of the river where Ramon, his father, uncle and grandfather Julián went by mule-drawn cart, loaded up with sheep fleeces. They'd wash the wool in the river and leave it to dry before bringing it back to the mill to be carded, spun and later woven into blankets.
In this way, Ramon calls Saona 'A tribute to our previous generations'. This is a yarn full of nuance in its texture and in its tones. The colors in this collection have been designed in collaboration with Hailey Smedley (@Ozetta). She and her work, like the Wool Dreamers' project, also comes from the family tradition, rooted in love for her grandmother who taught her to knit.

Ramon is the 4th generation in his family to continue their wool-making tradition. Under his management the mill has transformed into an important centre for yarn-making for hand knitters, using wool from local farmers, with minimal inputs so that as much care as possible goes into the local ecology, animal welfare and the working conditions of local shepherds and mill workers.
