Learn to knit your own socks
28 January, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
£100.00
This two part class takes place on 28 January and 4 February 2024
If you’re on the way with knitting and purling and feel like a new challenge, sock knitting will help you turn that corner (and a heel!), and leave you with a warm and toasty feeling for the rest of this winter and many more to come.
In this two-part class, you will make a small person’s sock with all the same shaping and techniques used in a full sized adult sock.
You will learn how to :
- pick appropriate yarns to use for sock knitting
- make sense of the abbreviations and sections of sock patterns
- knit in the round with a circular needle using the magic loop technique
- ‘turn a heel’ with a heel flap and short-row shaping
- manage the decreases that create the gusset
- complete the toe by grafting stitches together
Needles and practice yarn will be available to use during the classes. If you would prefer to use your own, please bring 50g of worsted or aran weight wool and a 3.25mm circular needle which is at least 80cm long.
The class is suitable for people who are already on the way with knitting and comfortably managing knitting, purling, ribbing and casting on. Ideal for knitters who are ready to learn new techniques like knitting in the round and using the magic loop technique
