Unspun Yarn Demystified Intermediate

Unspun Yarn Demystified

Light as a cloud and absurdly fragile, full of air but unfathomably warm. What is the appeal of this mysterious yarn and how on earth do you knit with it?

Join Heleana Palumbo, for a new adventure with unspun yarn, as she takes you on a deep dive into the exptraordinary properties of this super-fragile super light yarn.

During the class you will learn

    • how unspun yarn is made, and what makes it so special

    • how to hold unspun yarn so that you can knit confidently without fear of it breaking

    • about the surprising strengths that are integral to its fragility

During the class you will work on a wrist-warmer pattern using Manchelopis, an unspun slubbing yarn made by Wooldreamers in Spain, from the fleece of Manchego sheep. You will also have a chance to sample a range of other slubbing yarns available from small mills in the Scottish Hebrides, Sweden and Iceland.
