Rauwerk is another one of those yarns that gives us a warm glow. Not only is it made with respect for the environment and the animals which give us the fibre, but the story behind its making places the wool front and centre of the new wave in socially conscious yarn production. This is a 2ply, woollen spun 100% Merino yarn from Bavaria, with the meterage of a DK yarn but it will knit up more like a worsted/aran weight. It’s very lofty, and so when knitted at a worsted gauge it will make a beautiful airy garment that will be wonderful to wear.

It comes from a local, organic certified farm on the outskirts of Munich. The yarn is spun in a mill nearby in the Chiemgau region in the Bavarian Alps. Bouncy and soft, yet rustic and characterful in appearance, this yarn is good for a wide range of garment and accessory projects, allowing enough stitch definition for a richly cabled sweater or a cosy lace shawl.
