Rauwerk Organic Merino Sport is a 2 stranded woollen spun 100% organic Merino yarn from Bavaria in Germany. The air pockets created within the woollen spin,make this an ideal yarn to knit across a range of airy to dense fabric gauges. In our experience, it works particularly well for patterns that require a DK gauge (22-19 stitches/10cm). This combination of the meterage of a sport-wight with the gauge of a DK means the yarn will go a lot further than you might expect.
And the smoothness of the merino fibre means that this yarn still gives good clear stitch definition for cables and lace.

Although it may not feel as soft as a worsted-spun, machine washable merino at first squeeze, Rauwerk Sport blooms and softens beautifully when washed and creates a warm, light, coherent fabric that is more likely to keep its shape than Superwash-processed yarns.

As the yarn is untreated, we recommend hand washing and drying flat. Did you know that wool repels dirt naturally? We recommend regular airing in cold air between washes to extend the life of the garment. On frosty mornings you may find us laying out our favourite sweaters in the garden! However, always wash sweaters before you store them for the summer as moths tend to enjoy a little gravy with their yarn…

Rauwerk is made of the fleece of a single flock of Merino D’arles sheep  from a local, organic certified farm on the outskirts of Munich. The yarn is spun in a mill nearby in the Chiemgau region in the Bavarian Alps.
