Guernsey wool is tightly worsted spun yarn with a special 5 ply construction that holds an important place in British knitting history and folklore – as the traditional yarn used to make the eponymous legendary fisherman’s sweaters that were worn by the fisherfolk up and down the coastal areas on the British Isles.

Whilst the yarn has the meterage of a standard DK, it’s characteristic tight spin, makes it suited to knitting at a much tighter (32 stitch) gauge, to create hard wearing pill-free, fabric with a density that can see off both wind and water. The yarn gives great stitch definition in both cable and texture stitches and will keep its good looks for years to come.

Our Frangipani Guernsey 5ply is spun and dyed in Yorkshire in the same mills that have been spinning British wool for generations. They are a family-run business based in Helston, in Cornwall.
