Did you say Saturday 14 June?
Yup, that’s right Saturday 14 June!
But isn’t that this Saturday?! A bit of notice might have been helpful. What if I’m busy?
Ok, I’m sorry already. It’s a bit of a my-bad. I didn’t clock what day it was until last weekend and I had to decide if it was too late or not.
You mean you thought you might skip it this year?
Well… er.. yes. Would that have been so terrible?
Well.. er… YES!!! It’s World Wide Knit in Public Day. It’s OUR day. The one day in the year that’s ours to tell the world about what we do and how great it is. A day with no higher purpose than to share our loopy pastime with everyone. It’s the day we tear down barriers between knitters and non-knitters. It’s the day we’re no longer some weirdo lone-knitter across from them on the train. It’s the day they ask to join in and do it too. It’s the day we do it together and EVERYONE can join in.
Okay. Okay. I get it. It’s World Wide Knit in Public Day, and it means a lot to you. And I’m sorry I didn’t make a plan sooner. But I’m on board now. Would you like me to tell you what the plan is?
Let’s just agree that you’ll get your act together in better time next year. We are where we are. So what’s the plan?
I’ll be in the shop during the day so I propose we meet in Hackney Downs Park at 6pm for an evening Pic-Knit. If everyone brings something to sit on, we can get pizzas and snacks from our friends on Lower Clapton Road. It’s nearly the longest day of the year so there’ll be plenty of daylight time left and the forecast is lovely and warm – in fact the evening is probably going to be the nicest part of the day for knitting.
Okay I’m starting to feel a bit better about it all now. It looks like you may be able to pull this one back from the brink. We’ve got a date, a time, and food. Can we be a bit more precise about the location please?
Absolutely. We’ll be in Hackney Downs Park by the wild flower section which is in the north east quadrant of the park. The what3words location is ///tree.trail.fence. And I’ll put an update about that on Instagram when we get there.

And booking to come? How does that work?
You don’t need to! It’s just a rock-up-and-knit thing. No tickets, no passports, no bouncers, no gates. Just wool, needles and jolly knitters.
See you on Saturday!
